| Katie Holmes: Pucker Up |
[05 Dec 2009|03:22am] |
Showing off her sense of humor, Katie Holmes was spotted making a variety of amusing faces while on break from filming scenes on the set of her latest movie, “The Romantics,” in Long Island, New York on Friday (December 4).
The “Mad Money” actress was dressed casually in a sweater teamed with a pair of “LOVE” sweatpants as she grabbed some fried potato snacks and tomato ketchup for a quick snack.
( Is this bitch forreal? )

| New York Post:HIM returns with new single 'Heartkiller' |
[05 Dec 2009|01:58am] |
It seems like forever since Finnish love metal band HIM has been heard from, but good news, Ville Valo and the guys are back and they're brought something concrete for fans to hold on to.
The band has just premiered its new single, "Heartkiller," on MySpace. Check it out here. It's wee bit of a departure from the band's previous works, but in a very good, hopeful-for-the-rest-of-the-album kind of way.
"Heartkiller" is the first track from their upcoming album, "Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice," due out on Feb. 9. It's the band's seventh studio album, following its 2007 disc, "Venus Doom," which debuted at No. 12 and was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Boxed/Special Limited Edition Packaging.” Who knew such a thing existed? Sheesh.
No US tour dates seem to be set up for the moment, but expect to hear rumblings sometime early next year.
And Ville Valo leaves message for German fans...

| AV Club Includes PD alumni in their Best of the Decade Lists |
[05 Dec 2009|12:51am] |
The AV Club just published all their "Best of" lists for the 200-s. Entries on three separate lists have Pushing Daisies connections:
- TV Episodes of the '00s
Pushing Daisies, “Oh Oh Oh, It’s Magic” (Nov. 19, 2008)
Conventional wisdom says the Pushing Daisies pilot was so gloriously over-the-top and imaginative that the rest of the series could never hope to match it. And while that’s true on a visual level (the series would never have a budget like the one it had for the pilot again), it’s not true on a character level, as Pushing Daisies and creator Bryan Fuller spent much of the series’ second (and final) season deepening the characters’ emotional connections and exploring their nuances. Take this episode. Resurrecting pie-man Ned discovers he has two younger half-brothers he never knew about, and over the course of an hour, he finds a whole family he’s not sure he wants to be a part of. It’s sublime stuff about reconnecting with people when you’re an adult, and it’s what kept the tweeness on the series’ surface from becoming unpalatably gooey.

- One-Season Wonders of the '00s
Wonderfalls (Fox, 2004)
Bryan Fuller’s television career has been chockfull of disappointment. His quirky, singular visions get on the air, but they’re soon rejected by audiences and consigned to one-and-done DVD sets. His Wonderfalls, a weird blend of Gen-X snark and Amelie, attempted to turn the story of a more-special-than-she-thinks antisocial 24-year-old into an excuse to bounce through a colorful world of talking animal figurines and lawn flamingoes. Improbably, Fuller, co-executive producers Tim Minear and Todd Holland, and star Caroline Dhavernas (who has sadly disappeared into “wife” roles in assorted movies) made the mundane fantastic and vice versa, crafting a low-key version of Fuller’s other late, lamented series, Pushing Daisies.

- Almost the Best Films of the '00s (orphans & personal favorites)
The Fall (2006)
Tarsem’s outsized labor of love is in a way a series of stunts: a child star convinced she was acting in a documentary about a paraplegic; a non-handicapped adult star (Lee Pace) living in a wheelchair over a 12-week shoot, for verisimilitude; a film planned and shot across the space of more than two decades, in the most beautiful places Tarsem encountered in two dozen countries. But all the craziness just makes an already off-the-wall project more endearing and notable, especially since that craziness shows up clearly enough onscreen. Part redemption story, part high-gloss fantasy fable, The Fall is remarkable in every facet: the rawly emotional performances, the ridiculously gorgeous cinematography, and the thoroughly strange sense of humor that somehow brings Charles Darwin and a swimming elephant into the plot.
